We get our first look of the Kernel volleyball team in action over the weekend when Harrisburg comes to town on Saturday.

Go Kernels!
Happy Friday Kernel Fans! We were unable to get permission to bring you a copy of the internet feed over our cable system for tonight's big match-up in Sioux Falls. The best I can offer is a link to the webcast.
This option is from the Argus Leader and includes a chat with their sport's reporter - http://www.argusleader.com/section/washhssports
This feed comes from the Sioux Falls School District - http://media.sf.k12.sd.us/live_washington.php
With either of the above options, I'd suggest pairing the coverage with the play-by-play styling of either of our crack radio stations in town - http://www.kmit.com/ or http://www.1490korn.com/ - GO KERNELS!
In addition to the streaming options, we have a couple local options on our local content channels. We'll feature Kernel Wrestling (vs Yankton) on our flagship Channel 90 at 7:30 and a half-hour earlier, you can tune into Marlin Hockey action on our overflow Channel 91.
Tomorrow will be a jammed pack day of hoops. We have a DWU / MHS Boys Tripleheader on Channel 90 starting at 1PM. We'll also punch through an Internet feed from the MHS Girls trip to Aberdeen on Channel 91 starting at 7:30.

Winter Schedule
The Channel 90 Schedule for our winter coverage has been released. You can find a copy of it HERE. Our coverage will again feature Kernel Hoops and Wrestling along with DWU Hoops and Marlins Hockey. In addition to our local teams, we'll feature the Mike Miller, Hanson and DWU classics (one each month) during December, January and February.
New this year will be Final Round coverage of two Kernel Wrestling Tournaments. We'll bring you championship mat coverage during the finals of both the Jerry Opbroek Invite (1/12) and the ESD Conference Meet (2/9). In both cases, the tournaments overlap with coverage from a basketball classic - that means we'll have to feature them on our overflow channel (91).
We're looking forward to another great season from our local teams - Good Luck Kernels, Tigers & Marlins and have a great Thanksgiving, y'all!

Three Things I'm Looking Forward to in August...
1. Channel 90 Broadcasts: We’ll enter our third year of live
sports and community coverage this month and have over 50 games on the
broadcast schedule between now and early November. Coverage kicks off on August 17th
as James Valley Christian travels to Mitchell to take on Mitchell Christian in
Boys Varsity Soccer.
Similar to last year’s schedule, we’ll bring complete home
schedules of MHS Football and Volleyball as well as DWU Football. Select home
games of MHS Soccer (Both Boys & Girls), DWU Soccer (Men & Women), DWU
Volleyball and MCHS Soccer will also be featured on Channel 90. New this year,
will be a handful of sub-varsity Football at MHS that will feature the
Freshmen, Sophomore and JV squads throughout the season.
We will also unveil our local content Kernel shirt this
month and provide a number of them to show off your Kernel spirit. Look for
updates on the blog and Facebook to see how you can win one!
Corn Palace Week: It looks to be another great week of
performers for this year’s Corn Palace Festival - http://cornpalace.com/Shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=24.
I’m typically a big fan of the rock show they have this year, but having Hinder
as the headliner doesn’t really do if for me. I’ll instead have to swing my
support to Thompson Square / Frankie Ballard show as the must-see act for the
weekend.
Beyond the entertainment, I’m looking forward to 2.5 – 3 meals
of fair food for the week. Last year’s favorite was the ‘2.0’ from Big Daddy’s and
I’m guess one or more will be consumed this year.
Photographic that the 2.0 exists...
My babies turn 2: Sorry for dropping a note that really my
family is looking forward to during August. Paxton and Presley turned our lives
upside down (mostly for the good – other than a crazy amount of diapers) for
good on August 12th, 2010. I never knew how fast time could fly
until you blink and your babies are two years old and not babies anymore. It’s
been a learning curve that changes daily and an unbelievable journey that has
created infinite memories a two great people. Happy Birthday Pax & Pres - we love you very much!

Three Things I’m Looking Forward to in March
#1 March Madness – If you’ve read or listened to about anything I’ve done on this blog, you’re likely aware of the fact that I have a sports problem. So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that March Madness is something I’m looking forward to in March.
March works itself to be a basketball buffet for three straight weeks with NCAA Conference and National Tournaments. Locally, I love the atmosphere our South Dakota State Basketball Tournaments offer and look forward to Mitchell Telecom’s expanded coverage (All Three Classes for Both Girls & Boys!) every year. Since I feel like you should know these things, I’ll be paying special attention to the following…
- Our Kernels, both squads have played lights out this year and enter post season play with a real chance of doing damage. Both teams have been thoroughly fun to watch all season and I’m hoping they can prolong the season as long as possible
- My Fliers, the Flandreau Boys Basketball team has started to restore the roar (of the engine, that is) this season. I’m hoping Coach Bass and the boys and navigate a prickly district and loaded region en route to making the Class A field in Sioux Falls. (For those not interested in FHS Hoops, sorry for being a homer)
- The Wolfpack, North Carolina State, baby! Coach Mark Gottfried’s squad has shown some renewed vigor in 2011/12, and I’m praying they can make it back to the big dance. Note, the most likely destination for dancing will be the NIT
- My Bracket, I look forward to discussing this for hours and hours with people that could really care less. Sadly, it is one of the items I long for each year – sue me, I’m a guy.
#2 Geek Speak – this is set to be Mitchell Telecom’s first recurring theme for our corporate podcast. We’re set to record the first episode with our resident ‘geek’ Jon Mueller tomorrow (Thursday, March 1st), so look for a link to that later in the week. Geek Speak is our attempt to bring some attention to the gadgets, apps, websites, etc that we like in hope of improving your broadband experience. Ideally, listeners will walk away with a handful of things to check out to see if it fits their needs. For Geek Speak #1, it looks like we are going website heavy – featuring sites like www.join.me and www.kickstarter.com.
#3 SPRING – On Leap Day when over an inch of rain and 4+ inches of snow fell in the past 24 hours, this seems fitting. Spring starts on Tuesday, March 20th and promises flowers, green grass, and means we’re a little more than a week away from baseball (GO CUBS). I don’t care how nice this winter has been, ’m looking forward to spring. Growing up, I associated spring with the winding down of the school year, maybe that’s why I look forward to it each year – if I could only find a way to get summers off again. While we’re here, not that it is necessarily tied to spring, but our clocks ‘spring forward’ on Sunday, March 11th – go ahead and mark your calendars.
